Physical Description: Maiyah’s a tiny girl. She stands full grown at 5’1” and not an inch taller. While she is small, Maiyah’s proportionate, and often stands with a commanding presence--when she’s not working to hide her identity. Maiyah has a small rounded face with a narrowed chin, an equally small and narrowed nose above a pair of thin lips and below a pair of round, usually half-lidded green eyes. She sports thin brows, and a jaw-line short cut mop of red hair. Her ears are clear of piercings, and are often hidden by her hair.
She has a slender and lithe figure, packed with smoothly laying muscle, built from physical conditioning. Her skin tone tends to change from season to season. In the warmer months, she sports a tan; in the colder, she often loses her color, hidden from what sun there is by thicker clothes. Maiyah’s looks can often change, depending on her status as far as bounties go. If she has something on her head, she will continuously change her appearance either through wigs, contacts, hair dye, and using scarves to cover her hair completely.
Usual Attire: Maiyah’s outfit changes with the season and the occasion. Her normal garb consists usually of a tank top and slender jeans over feminine undergarments. Her pants are often secured with a brown leather belt, feet covered with socks and leather shoes, and a black cargo jacket. Under the jacket but over the shirt, there is usually a light brown leather holster harness, wrapping in a slant over her front, and concealing a gun--her Jericho 941--just under and behind her left arm.
When going out at night, Maiyah tends to dress in all black--black jeans, black boots, black shirt (usually ¾ way sleeves), and black gloves. At home, when not going out to fulfill clients’ orders, Maiyah will usually just dress in a tube top or faded teeshirt, wear shorts or pajama pants, and often go around barefoot.
Strengths:
Physically conditioned - As a thief, Maiyah does a good amount of climbing, running, crouching and fighting. This has physically conditioned her to be tolerant of punishment, hold high level of stamina and a good tally of strength for a woman her size.
Knowledge - Maiyah is well versed in the field she pursues. As a girl, she often studied history and geography, finding genuine interest in the cultures and tales of ancient peoples that no longer exist. This has helped her become rather studious in her adulthood. Often on her expeditions, she brings a journal and records notes on what she sees and speculates.
Weapon Proficiency - In the event that Maiyah runs out of ammo, she often has to turn to more traditional weapons to fight with. This isn’t always the case, but when squaring off against Conrad, Maiyah has to keep her paws up and teeth bare. While she’s not exactly a practiced martial artist, Maiyah has learned to improvise with makeshift weapons, such as poles, shivs, and ammoless guns. Her weapon of choice outside of guns is usually a staff or polearm, which provides leverage for her small size, and defense against blunt attacks.
Weaknesses:
Liar - Being a thief, Maiyah has mastered the art of deception. This obviously can’t win her many friends, and often paints her up as selfish and manipulative. This is true to her outward personality, which wins her more enemies than allies. But it at least gets her job done.
Bitch - Because the world Maiyah lives in is a fairly dangerous one, both topside (freakin’ saiyans) and underground, Maiyah’s safer on her own than with friends. Being a loner and warding off any possible relationships with anyone (with the exception of her mother) to keep both them safe and herself. Friends often result in death, either the threat of hers, or their own.
Anonymity - As a thief, Maiyah has to keep her identity concealed so as not to attract the attention of law enforcement and bounty hunters. This can be difficult, but it’s a sure thing to keep Maiyah on her toes in terms of security. She must remain a shadow in the crowd, or risk losing everything she’s worked for.
‘Normal’ - Maiyah’s a relatively normal person living in the world of martial artists, ki users and powerhouses. This can lead her into situations that might actually kill her, or land her in scalding hot water at the safest. Being one of personal gain who can’t really find the security in friends, Maiyah has no true allies in the world of the Z Fighters (or, sadly, what’s left of them), and ending up as an enemy of said faction can put her in a world of intense hurt.
Loneliness - While Maiyah doesn’t really know it, Maiyah is a lonely girl. She lives alone with only a small Egyptian Mau named Gordy to keep her company. While she loves Gordy with all her heart, it’s still not enough to counter her need for human socialization.
Father’s death - Maiyah is haunted almost daily by her father’s death. The vivid images of her father lying gunned down in a field of white snow turning red visits her at least once a day, and never does she find herself not sitting staring into outer space, mentally succumbing to the horrors of that day and the circumstances surrounding the man’s demise. She blames herself, and often suffers the pain of losing her father alone in her apartment.
Signature Moves: None
Fighting Style: Maiyah’s fighting style isn’t so much a style as it’s more of a strategy that gunmen use. When entering a fight that involves guns, Maiyah will traditionally find cover, and shoot from said cover, either firing when it’s safe or blind firing when bullets are showering. There will be the rare occasion where Maiyah is able to snipe her enemies (difficult without a scope, she’s working on getting one of those) with head shots.
There will be a time and a place however where ammo will run out. Maiyah’s a quick hitter and a weapon user, with a small and flexible body that can allow for quick maneuvering around enemies and dodging attacks. She’ll do anything to kill an enemy, though drastic measures that could threaten the integrity of surrounding structures, she’ll steer clear of. She’ll stab a person, strangle them, or break their necks, or even bludgeon them to death. Fighting against someone she doesn’t trust enough to let live, Maiyah doesn’t fight to fight, she fights to kill.
Personality: There are two sides to Maiyah. The first side is a side that everyone meets and often dismisses as her sitting on a perpetual bitch stool. First meetings will also have to depend on the circumstance. If someone was somehow able to happen upon her during a steal-job, Maiyah holds no qualms putting a gun to their head. While most of society is often into its own business that Maiyah wouldn’t have to worry about random encounters with friendlies, there are times where she meets people who are kind while she’s out and about. She makes stoic small talk, and if the person persists, then she lashes out at them with cruel under-the-breath insults.
For those lucky enough to get under her skin and somehow avoid the dangers of being close, Maiyah is often a fairly warm lady. She’s generous, letting whoever it is that impressed her enough to remain her friend into her home. With friends comes danger, and Maiyah is a protective little beast. Any attack on her friend/s does not go unpunished. The perpetrator will often find themselves with a broken something or other, or simply mauled and barely alive in their beds. Or dead, depending on Maiyah’s mood. Other thieves are fodder for her. She’ll kill them outright if they pose immediate threats, but is not the type to go out hunting for them without just cause.
Background: Maiyah was born in West City to her mother Carolyne, a young seamstress who owned her own dress shop, and Drake, one of the most known notorious professional thieves. Growing up, Maiyah was daddy's little girl. She went to school thanks to the money they brought home, but as her father's daughter, Maiyah wanted to follow in Drake's footsteps and become a thief. Drake often took Maiyah with him to museums, and as Maiyah grew older, she would get caught by police for petty thievery from local fruit bazaars.
Maiyah's thieving was not unlike her father's when he was her age, but worry for his daughter's safety pushed Drake to try to deter her away from similar escapades. Maiyah begrudgingly obeyed her father, simply keeping to her schoolwork and going to museums on her own. However, it wasn't long before, as a teenager, Maiyah began to involve herself in the practice of thievery once more, against the wishes of her parents, and without their prior knowledge. Maiyah was careful not to be caught, starting small with bazaar stands and practicing a sleight of hand before she began to pickpocket off the street.
While in her high school years, Maiyah took to archaeology, geography and geological studies. After graduating high school, she went straight to college, signing up for expeditions and digs like her life depended on it. When she was 20 years old in her third year of college, Maiyah finally got the break she was hoping for, and went to an unnamed island three thousand miles southwest of the mainland. While students went separately to dig, Maiyah delved deep within a different sector of ruins.
Using her skills she learned growing up and from watching her father, Maiyah snuck into the restricted corridors of the ancient ruins, actively in search of treasure. However, it wasn't long until she was caught by a group of bandits, who were out for the same thing. With guns and knives, they went at her, and Maiyah rushed out of the ruins, taking bullets to her arms, legs and sides. She rushed back to her classmates and instructor, warning them frantically of the bandits, her injuries providing proof. The group evacuated and authorities were called to deal with the bandits. Maiyah was taken to the hospital in West City, where she was confronted by Drake.
She confessed to having wandered off in search of treasure, and Drake, at a loss, decided to take his daughter with him on an expedition for treasure, arming her with the knowledge of the world of Professional Thievery and guns. During the adventure, Maiyah and Drake found a small coffer chest full of gold coins and a necklace. However, they were cut off by a group of rival thieves. Both of them made it out, but not unscathed. While they managed to kill off the group of thieves, they both sustained bullet and knife wounds. While Maiyah was sure to make it, Drake however couldn't go on and died in her arms from his injuries.
Unable to simply leave her father's body, Maiyah took Drake to the sacred grounds of the ruins they had just pillaged and buried him there. She then returned home with the bounty, giving the gold and the necklace to her mother. It was then that Maiyah, scarred and forever changed by her father's death, contemplated quitting thieving and treasure hunting altogether. While Carolyne would rather Maiyah find a new career path anyway, she urged her daughter to carry on her father's work as a way to remember him and keep him close.
Maiyah gave it some thought as she grieved, until one day she traveled back to his grave site. She stayed a few nights there, until she felt the presence of her father around her. She had a dream, a vision of uncovering a great many secrets and treasures, with her father's wisdom, knowledge, skill and prowess guiding her. The next day, she further into the ruins, armed and ready for any other thieves that were lurking inside. Shooting down any thief inside, Maiyah scoured the ancient ruins, unlocking ancient mechanisms and uncovering hidden rooms. In one of the dead chambers, Maiyah uncovered a small coffer. She shot it open with her pistol, and laying inside was a wolf claw dagger, the hilt a deep gold and gem-encrusted.
Maiyah took the dagger as remembrance of her father and fled the ruins. Cold, dirty and worn, Maiyah went back home after saying a final goodbye to her father, and assumed work as a professional thief, dropping out of college and carrying on her father's work, keeping the dagger close to her heart.
